The Eurovision Song Contest is an annual international music competition that brings together countries from across Europe (and, in some cases, beyond) to compete against each other in a live, televised event. The contest has been running since 1956 and is organized by the European Broadcasting Union. Each participating country submits an original song to be performed live on stage, and then viewers from around the world vote to determine the winner. The contest has launched the careers of many successful performers, including ABBA, Celine Dion, and Julio Iglesias. In recent years, the Eurovision Song Contest has become known for its flamboyant performances and elaborate staging, with countries often incorporating complex choreography, special effects, and even pyrotechnics into their acts. The contest has also become a major cultural event in Europe, with millions of viewers tuning in to watch the live broadcast and many fans holding Eurovision-themed parties and events.
