Toledo

Toledo is a historic city in central Spain, about 70 kilometers from Madrid. It was the capital of Spain until the 16th century. You can reach Toledo by train from Madrid in about 30 minutes. Buses and cars are also options.
The city has many important tourist attractions. The Alcázar is a fortress with a military museum. The Toledo Cathedral is a large Gothic church with important religious art. The Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes has a mix of architectural styles. You can visit the El Greco Museum to see paintings by the famous artist. The Synagogue of Santa María la Blanca and the Mosque of Cristo de la Luz show Toledo’s diverse history. The Puente de San Martín and Puente de Alcántara are old bridges with great views.
Walking is the best way to get around because Toledo’s streets are narrow. Buses connect different parts of the city. Taxis are available, but driving is difficult due to traffic restrictions.
Toledo is generally welcoming to all visitors. However, it does not have a large gay scene like Madrid or Barcelona.
